Our staff has worked in the MLS, WPS, US Soccer, and US Youth Soccer. All of our staff writers have had extensive experience in working with elite level athletes. Whether it is bringing an athlete back to competition from an injury or increasing their performance on the field, our staff has done it all.

Chris Phillips

Chris Phillips, ATC, CSCS

Chris is a board certified athletic trainer & strength and conditioning coach who possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in the world of performance training and sports rehabilitation. Having spent over 15 years working at the professional level, Chris has worked with some of the very best in Women’s Professional Soccer, the National Hockey League, and the Arena Football League.

He recently served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles Sol of the Women’s Professional Soccer League where he was responsible for overseeing the team’s sports medicine protocols. Additionally, Chris has spent two seasons working as the Head Strength Coach and Head Athletic Trainer for Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League. Prior to the Avengers, Chris also spent eight years in the National Hockey League with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Washington Capitals. While working in the NHL, one of Chris’s proudest moments was being selected as the Head Athletic Trainer for the 2002 USA Hockey Men’s National Team that competed in Sweden.

Following his tenure in professional sports, Chris founded Compete Sports Performance and Rehab based out of Orange County California. As the owner and operator of Compete, Chris and his staff provide performance training and sports medicine services to a variety of professional, amateur and recreational athletes, club teams, and other sports organizations looking to get an edge on their competition. Chris has additional facilities in the Los Angeles County area.

Josh Beaumont

Josh Beaumont, MS, ATC

Josh has spent 30 years involved in the game of soccer as a player, coach, referee, and athletic trainer having been successful at all levels.

Josh recently served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Chivas USA of Major League Soccer, where he coordinated the team’s sports medicine department and implemented all sports rehabilitation programs. Josh remains an active participant in the USSF Youth National Teams and USYSA Region I/III Girls’ Soccer Olympic Development Programs and has served as the athletic trainer for the US Youth Soccer All-American Team in the Adidas Cup, featuring the Under-19 National Teams from Canada, Japan, and the United States. A former collegiate soccer player he has also worked with regionally and nationally ranked men’s and women’s Division 1 soccer programs. Besides a vast soccer knowledge, Josh draws on his experiences working with professional athletes in Major League Lacrosse, National Lacrosse League, Cirque du Soleil, and the National Football League.

Ben Torres

Ben Torres, ATC

Ben is a board certified athletic trainer whose versatile background ranges from womens’ professional soccer to professional boxing.

Ben recently served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles Sol of the Women’s Professional Soccer League. He has also served as an athletic trainer for the U23 US Women’s National Team. More recently, Ben has worked as a consultant for Compete Sports Performance & Rehab, where he focuses primarily on Compete’s soccer programs.

Prior to getting involved in women’s professional soccer, Ben has worked in the Arena Football League, where he served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the San Jose Sabercats assisting with all sports medicine protocols and sports rehabilitation programs.

Ben’s other work experience includes working as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Sports Medicine Department of All American Heavyweights, a boxing academy located in Carson, CA that trains both amateur and professional boxers.

Ben holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training from the University of La Verne.

Ashlee E. Banuelos

Ashlee E. Banuelos

Ashlee is the Web Architect for 90strong.com and is responsible for supervising 90strong’s web design and development. She brings 10 years of web experience to 90strong.com.

Ashlee’s professional web background goes unrivaled in the corporate health and wellness industry. From October 2006 to July 2011, Ashlee worked as part of the web team at Beachbody, LLC, whose products include P90X and Insanity. She served as a Web Production Artist, Sr. Web Production Artist, and moved up to Front End Web Manager for the Beachbody web team. She was responsible for supervising both the web development and email development teams that focused on www.beachbody.com. She now works for DIRECTV as a Software Engineer working on TV applications for their set-top boxes.

Ashlee’s web experience stems from her career as an independent contractor, designing websites for a variety of small businesses. She went to school at the University of La Verne where she double majored in Computer Science and Art.

Elysia Tsai

Elysia Tsai, M.Ed, ATC

Elysia is a board certified athletic trainer with a Master of Education in Developmental Kinesiology, specializing in Sport Psychology from Bowling Green State University. Elysia started working with the US Soccer Federation in the summer of 2008 at the Nike Women’s Friendlies

Elysia traveled within the United States with the u15 MNT, u18 MNT, u15 WNT, u17 WNT, u18 WNT and u20 WNT. She traveled consistently with the U17 WNT during their preparation for CONCACAF in 2009-2010. Internationally she traveled to Germany with the u15 MNT, Argentina with the u17 WNT in 2009, Costa Rica with the u17 WNT for the CONCACAF championship in 2010 and Denmark with the u17 WNT where the team won the Nordic Cup of 2010.

Elysia is the owner and developer of Si-Boards balance boards, a revolutionary sports performance tool that helps athletes enhance their balance, core strength and stability.

Cody Mansfield

Cody Mansfield, ATC, CSCS, SPT

Cody is a board certified athletic trainer, certified strength and conditioning specialist, and a doctoral candidate of physical therapy at Duke University. He worked as an athletic training intern with Chivas USA under Josh Beaumont, and has experience working with Chapman University Athletics and the under-23 Carolina RailHawks. Cody is passionate about keeping soccer players injury free and enhancing their performance on the soccer field.

Carlos Roel

Carlos Roel, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS

Carlos is a doctor of physical therapy, a certified athletic trainer, and a certified strength and conditioning specialist, who has completed the postgraduate Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) residency where he learned the PNF hands-on treatment approach that helps him analyze and assess the movements of individuals while at the same time facilitating efficient strategies of functional movement. He has provided medical coverage for soccer athletes of the Womens Professional Soccer League, U14 US Girls’ National Team, Sueño MLS, California State Soccer Association – South (Cal South), Oakwood School, in North Hollywood, California, and with the Los Angeles Unified School District.
